Der interfilm-Festival-Katalog 2010 Teil II - Die Rahmenprogramme

The Focus gives an overview not just of recent Irish shorts but exceptional productions from as far back as 1985, from pre Celtic Tiger Ireland to the present. Irish shorts have, in recent years, won great international success, winning awards at festivals, a European Film Academy Award Undressing My Mother and achieving Oscar nominations. Indeed it is remarkable that six films in the Focus have won Oscar nominations, Granny OGrimms Sleeping Beauty, Give Up Yer Aul Sins, New Boy and Six Shooter and from Northern Ireland, Dance Lexy Dance and Everything in This Country Must. Six Shooter the first foray into filmmaking by acclaimed playwright Martin McDonagh won the Academy Award for Best Live Action short in 2006.
Ireland has changed greatly since Bölls time there. The interfilm program includes films which represent an Ireland that is familiar and conforms to outsiders views of the country. But it also includes those that challenge and confound peoples views of Ireland. In the recent productions of this program we see not just the emergence of a new Irish cinema but a reflection on a new Ireland, a new chapter in our national journal.
I hope that the Focus will deepen your understanding of Ireland, will bring to your attention new and talented filmmakers but mostly I hope you will enjoy the imagination, the wit and the cinematic pleasures of these fine films. Das filmische Erlebnis Beyond Bollywood beinhaltet in drei Programmen eine qualitativ hochwertige Filmauswahl in den Sektionen Kurz Spielfilm, Dokumentation und Animation. Alexander Stein und Matthias Groll Grandiose, gorgeously colourful and greatly emotional: even beyond Bollywood, Indian cinemas modest, yet elaborate short film productions are celebrated at festivals the world over. While these films betray the influence of lavish choreography, they nevertheless sound out the at times hard reality of every day life in India and dare to look beyond its cultural selfcertainty.
